Short Abstract
This workshop presents competency-based monitoring model for work-based assessment in academic programs. The model aligns competencies based Medical Educations with work-placed based assessment integrated LMS digital logbooks. This model defines performance indicators, multi-faceted assessment approaches and real-time tracking. It streamlines administration and contributes to competency-based education in work-integrated learning contexts.
Extended Abstract
Introduction:
This session presents an innovative approach for designing and implementing competency-based monitoring model for work-based assessment, utilizing and customizing the assignment activity, Competency frameworks, H5P for portfolio features of the Learning Management System (LMS) integrated for digital logbook as a primary tool.
The workshop focuses on the development and implementation of a comprehensive framework that aligns academic competencies with industry standards. The core of this framework is a digital logbook, custom designed using an assignment activity within the LMS platform. This initiative represents a significant advancement from traditional paper-based methods, embracing technology to enhance the monitoring and documentation of students' learning, skills, and attitudes in work-based contexts. H5P tools could be used to create the evidence-based Portfolio for collection of competency evidence and artifacts. This approach encourages learners to self-directed learning.
Key Components:
1) Digital Logbook: At the heart of our framework is a custom-designed digital logbook, created using the assignment activity within the LMS. This replaces outdated paper-based logbook, offering a dynamic platform for real-time documentation of student progress.
2) H5P Integration: We utilize H5P tools to create evidence-based portfolios, allowing for rich, interactive content that showcases competency evidence and artifacts.
3) Alignment with Industry Standards: Our framework bridges the gap between academic competencies and industry expectations, ensuring that assessments are relevant and valuable in real-world contexts.
4) Real Time Tracking: With secured accessibility, the digital logbook also allows for data to be viewed by team members and educators in real time
The competency-based monitoring model incorporates several key elements:
a) Clearly defined and aligned Program outcomes with competencies.
b) Measurable performance indicators for each competency
c) A multi-faceted assessment approach including self-reflection, supervisor evaluations, and evidence-based portfolios
d) Real-time tracking and feedback mechanism provided by the LMS dashboard
e) Data analytics for continuous improvement of the assessment process
Level of Participants:
This session will be highly interactive, encouraging active participation from administrators, faculty, instructional support staff, Program director, Course Coordinators, assessment coordinators, and technologists. Participants will engage in collaborative exercises that simulate real-world work-based assessment scenarios, where they will design the competency-based monitoring models. Small group discussions will be facilitated, allowing attendees to share their experiences and best practices, while interactive polling will be used to gather immediate feedback on proposed models. This session is designed for participants to not only learn from experts but also contribute to the refinement of work-based assessment models through hands-on activities
Session goals:
By the conclusion of this workshop, participants will:
Design Competency-Based Models: Develop comprehensive monitoring model for work-based assessments within academic programs.
Utilize LMS Tools: They will be equipped with practical tools using their own workspace created on Learning Management system and explore the strategies to align assessments and Competencies with program outcomes and industry needs.
Align Assessments: Learn strategies to align assessments and competencies with program outcomes and industry needs.
Mastery H5P tools: Utilize the H5P plugin for compilation of artifacts, evidence-based portfolios for work-based assessment.
Implement Digital Logbooks: Incorporate ongoing documentation processes and continuous assessment techniques.
Evaluate Monitoring Features: Assess the effectiveness of various LMS monitoring features in real time tracking
Plan Implementation: Develop strategies to implement these tools and approaches in their institutions to enhance student learning outcomes and professional readiness.
