Collaboration is a key feature of successful teams, but fostering collaborative teams isn't easy. In this session, you will complete a collaborative team exercise and start to uncover the deliberate structure of effective collaborative learning experiences. Join us to learn strategies to unlock the power of collaborative teams.
This session will engage participants in a team building exercise that will take approximately 25 minutes to complete. The remainder of the session will allow participants to debrief the experience. The team exercise for this session is a frequently used exercise in the team-based learning (TBL) courses at University of Michigan. Team-based learning, is a pedagogical approach designed to foster collaborative learning. At University of Michigan, we have many instructors teaching team-based learning courses because of the power of teams to increase student engagement and investment in their courses. Teaching an effective TBL course takes a deep understanding of what teamwork is and the ability to manage effective teams. In order to prepare our faculty to teach effective team-based learning courses, we ask them to attend our team-based learning trainings. At the first training, faculty are asked to participate in the same team exercise from this session. At the end of the team activity, we draw on the shared experience from the team exercise in order to meet the following objectives: -Define team-based learning and understand its impact on student outcomes. -Differentiate between group work and teamwork. -Explore a range of available tools and techniques for organizing effective teams. -Begin the process of designing team-based activities for an upcoming TBL course. If you are interested in unlocking the power of collaborative teams, whether in your classroom or at your office, join us for this engaging session.
